HIS 202 - American History: 1877 to Present


Class: 3 Credits: 3
This course is a survey of U.S. history from 1877 to the present. This course includes political, social, economic, and intellectual developments during this period.

Prerequisite(s): Take ENG 100  and RDG 100  with a minimum grade of “C”.

  • Rise of industry.
  • Urban America at the turn of the century.
  • America’s rise to empire.
  • Politics of progressivism.
  • U.S. involvement in World War I.
  • Roaring twenties.
  • Reactionary politics in the 1920s.
  • America’s descent into the Great Depression.
  • Steps leading to U.S. involvement In World War II.
  • U.S. role in World War II.
  • Origins of the Cold War.
  • U.S. involvement in Vietnam.
  • Civil Rights movement.
  • Nixon presidency.
  • Administrations of Carter, Reagan and Bush.

An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.
