MED 114 - Medical Assisting Clinical Procedures


Class: 2 Lab: 6 Credits: 4
This course covers examination room techniques, including vital signs, specialty examination, minor surgical techniques and emergency procedures.

Grading System:
An overall grade of B or higher is required for transferability.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Describe the necessity and function of the medical history in patient treatment.
  2. Describe methods, positioning, and instruments used in routine physical examinations.
  3. Employ medical assisting practices to assist the physician with obstetrics, gynecological, and male reproductive examinations.
  4. Employ medical assisting practices to assist the physician with pediatric examinations.
  5. Identify expected changes that occur as part of the aging process.
  6. Distinguish various techniques used in medical specialty examinations and procedures of the body systems.
  7. Identify sterile surgical technique and instruments used in minor surgery. (DASC.MA PLO #4)
  8. Demonstrate medical assisting procedures required for patient care in the ambulatory care setting. (DASC.MA PLO #4)
