MGT 210 - Employee Selection and Retention


Class: 3 Credits: 3
This course examines how to identify and assess employment needs within an organization. Students will also study the functions of recruitment, selection, and training, with an emphasis on employee retention.

Prerequisite(s): Take MGT 101  with a minimum grade of “C”.
Corequisite(s): Take MGT 201 .

  • External assessment methods
  • Internal assessment methods
  • The employment contract
  • Orienting and socializing new employees
  • Involuntary employee separations

Required Materials:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Word processing software (must be able to save Word format)
  • Anti-virus software

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

D 60 - 69
F 0 - 59


Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Define the components of strategic staffing.
  2. Identify relevant and legal interview questions.
  3. Create a job advertisement containing all necessary elements.
  4. Determine strategies needed for a successful retention plan.
  5. Determine an appropriate job offer letter and a turndown response for candidates.
