PSY 203 - Human Growth and Development


Class: 3 Credits: 3
This course is a study of the physical, cognitive, and social factors affecting human growth, development, and potential.

Prerequisite(s): Take PSY 201  with a minimum grade of “C”.
Course Topics:

  • Basic genetics and gene interactions
  • Prenatal development, birth and parenting
  • Physical, cognitive, and social development during infancy and early childhood
  • Physical, cognitive, and social development during middle childhood and adolescence
  • Physical, cognitive, and social development during early, middle, and late adulthood.

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Distinguish the effects of heredity and environment on prenatal development, birth, and parenting.
  2. Explain the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development of infancy and early childhood.
  3. Analyze the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development of middle childhood and adolescence.
  4. Describe the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial changes that occur during early, middle, and late adulthood.
