WLD 154 - Pipefitting and Welding


Class: 3 Lab: 3 Credits: 4
This is a basic course in fitting and welding pipe joints, either ferrous or non-ferrous, using standard processes.

  • Identify and Interpret Basic Symbols
  • Fit and Weld Pipe

  • 10” Channel Lock Pliers
  • Long Welding Gloves
  • Cotton Welders Cap
  • Clear Safety Glasses
  • Cotton Pants without Cuffs
  • Tip Cleaners
  • Short TIG Gloves
  • 14” Half-Round File
  • Pencil with Eraser
  • Sketching Paper
  • Steel Tape or 6’ Folding Ruler

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify and properly use basic pipefitting tools efficiently and safely.
  2. State names, types and use of basic pipe fittings.
  3. Identify as well as interpret the purpose of multiple pipefitting symbols and blueprints.
  4. Use pipefitting formulas to calculate takeouts for fittings and for basic design and blueprints.
  5. Make their own pipe template as well as demonstrating the use and purpose of the template.
  6. Fit and weld pipe from the Cut, Fit, and Weld aspect in the 45 and 90 degree positions.
