ART 122 - 3-D Design Fundamentals Class: 2 Lab: 3 Credits: 3 This foundation course introduces students to 3-D design concepts and basic sculptural materials. Projects address a variety of design problems unique to 3-D art forms.
Prerequisite(s): Take ENG 032 , MAT 032 and RDG 100 with a minimum grade of “C” required. Course Topics:
- Design Elements: Line, Shape, Value, Color, Space, Texture, Time, Form, Structure
- Design Organization: Harmony, Balance, Proportion, Dominance, Movement, Economy, Contrast, Emphasis, Repetition, Rhythm, Direction
- Degrees of three-dimensionality: Relief, Frontal, Full Round
- Construction: Manipulation/Modeling, Addition, Subtraction
- Possible Media/Material include, but are not limited to: Paper, Cardboard, Foamcore, Wood, Wire, Clay, Plaster, Fiber, Found Objects

- Identify, use, and explain the basic vocabulary and concepts associated with three-dimensional design.
- Create projects that demonstrate a working knowledge of the elements of art, principles of design, and basic three-dimensional materials and processes.
- Establish standards of craftsmanship and presentation.
- Demonstrate written and oral communication skills through formal analysis, critique, and self-assessment.
