ECD 237 - Methods and Materials Class: 3 Credits: 3 This course includes an overview of developmentally-appropriate methods and materials for planning, and evaluating environments. Emphasis is on integrating divergent activities in each curriculum area.
Prerequisite(s): Take ECD 101 , ECD 102 , ECD 105 , ECD 131 , ECD 132 , ECD 133 , ECD 135 and ECD 203 . Course Topics:
- Defining Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP)
- Planning for DAP Curriculum
- DAP Physical Environments
- DAP Social/Emotional Environments
- DAP Cognitive/Language/Literacy Environments
- Ethics in the Classroom Environment
- Completion of Professional Portfolio
- Bulletin Board preparation
Textbooks: Textbook information can be found on the Book Inn Web site Required Materials:
- Computer with Internet access
- Word processing software (must be able to save Word format)
- Anti-virus software
Grading System: A grade of C is required for all course work.
A 90 - 100
B 80 - 89
C 70 - 79
D 60 - 69

Student Learning Outcomes:
- Develop effective instructional techniques for teaching young children. (NAEYC 1c)
- Select, evaluate, and utilize appropriate equipment and materials for a preschool program. (NAEYC 4c)
- Develop and implement lesson plans and activities which support a fully integrated curriculum. (NAEYC 1a-1c, 4b, 4c, 5a-5c)
- Identify the ethical standards and guidelines and use them to evaluate ethical dilemmas. (NAEYC 6b)
- Assemble evidence that demonstrates professional readiness in the Early Care and Educational field. (NAEYC 6a)
