ENG 205 - English Literature I

This is a (college transfer) course in which the following topics are presented: the study of English literature from the old English period to the Romantic period with emphasis on major writers and periods.

Prerequisite(s): Take ENG 102 with a minimum grade of “C”.

Required Materials:

Access to a computer with Windows 2000 or newer
Ability to format .doc, .rtf, or .html documents
Internet access.

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Identify writers and works of the period.
Relate the social, historical, and cultural influences in literature in oral and/or written analyses.
Analyze or explicate works using formalist criticism.
Defend original theses with relevant evidence from primary sources.
Synthesize several critical analyses/secondary sources into an essay that conforms to MLA guidelines.
