MTT 251 - CNC Operations


Class: 2 Lab: 3 Credits: 3
This course is a study of CNC machine controls, setting tools, and machine limits, and capabilities. 

Prerequisite(s): Take MTT 250  with a minimum grade of “C”. 
Course Topics:
  • Machine Controls
  • Selecting/Setting up Tooling
  • Manual G-Code programming

Required Materials:
  • Scientific Calculator (TI-30XA)
  • USB Drive
  • Clear Safety Glasses
  • 3-piece Machinist Starter Kit:
    • 6” Rule
    • 1” Micrometer
    • 6” Dial Caliper

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

A 90 - 100
B 80 - 89
C 70 - 79
D 60 - 69
F 0 - 59



Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Understand and identify different types of machine controls.
  2. Identify proper tooling required to perform job tasks.
  3. Produce basic G-Code programs for CNC Mill.
  4. Produce basic G-Code programs for CNC Lathe.
