ASL 201 - American Sign Language III Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Description: This course is a continuation of American Sign Language II and covers additional vocabulary, grammar features, and non-manual behaviors, all focusing on conversational skills.
Prerequisite(s): Take ASL 102 . Course Topics:
- Vocabulary related to health, nationality, heritage, city and states
- Recurring and continuous time vocabularies and verb structures
- Making complaints, requests and negotiations
- Role shifting
- Complex sentence structures including phrases and clauses
- Classifiers
- Specialized signs related to careers
- Biographies and historical events
- Addresses
- Presenting research findings

Grading System: An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.
A = 90 - 100

- Demonstrate vocabulary and grammatical features of ASL at the intermediate level in both controlled and free expressive situations.
- Develop narratives for assigned topics in ASL using vocabulary and grammar introduced in class.
- Demonstrate comprehension of messages given in ASL.
- Use ASL to discuss culture and grammar observed at ASL events.
- Apply research techniques to presentations given in class.
