Description: This course provides instruction on critical elements of emergency preparedness in the medical office as well as community response in a bioemergency or natural disaster.

Prerequisite(s): MED 102, MED 105, MED 113, and MED 118.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Discuss the importance of bio emergency preparedness for the medical office.
Recognize various biological agents that have the potential to be used in bio terrorism events.
Discuss the importance of planning for a Pandemic influenza outbreak.
Explain the role of the Medical Assistant during a bio terrorism event and pandemic outbreak.
Describe the basic principles of First Aid.
Identify the physical agents necessary to promote tissue healing.
Recognize emergencies in the ambulatory care setting.
Practice skills in a mock environment exposure event.
Develop preparedness skills through CERT: Community Emergency Response Training.
Discuss proper fire safety.
