PNR 180 - Nursing Seminar


Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 0 Clinical Hours: 6 Credits: 3

Description: This course provides for the refinement of nursing skills and organizational skills using the nursing process. Legal and ethical aspects of practical nursing and the exploration of career opportunities are emphasized. 

Prerequisite(s): PNR 121 PNR 130  and PNR 154 .       
Course Topics:
  • Students are required to complete 60 hours of clinical.
  • Management of a caseload of patients in the clinical setting.

Grading System:
An overall grade of B or higher is required for transferability

A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F =   0 - 59


Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Apply and integrate appropriate critical thinking skills and knowledge in the care of the adult population with acute life-threatening illnesses or chronic medical-surgical needs.
  2. Participate in the nursing process to provide individualized, safe, and effective nursing care in a structured setting under supervision; to include documenting (according to institution policies) disease processes, medication effects treatments, etc. in timely manner.
  3. Practice appropriate professional behavior, accountability, responsibility, and verbal and non-verbal communication skills with clients, significant others, and all members of the healthcare team.
  4. Reinforce and/or implement the teaching plan developed and delegated by the registered nurse to promote the health of individuals, incorporating teaching, and learning principles.
  5. Demonstrate an environment of confidentiality, caring and support of the client’s decisions regarding culture, values, beliefs, and lifestyles through an interdisciplinary approach.
