MTH 131 - Clinical Applications of Massage II Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 9 Credits: 4
Description: Students will perform massage therapy in a clinical setting using advanced techniques and specialty modalities. Students will be closely supervised and evaluated by the instructor.
Prerequisite(s): MTH 122 , MTH 123 , MTH 136 , and MTH 138 . Course Topics:
- Review of relaxation massage techniques
- Review of SOAP notes
- Review of spa services
- Review of Deep Tissue techniques, various tools and modalities
- Introduction to 90min massage sessions
- Implement advanced techniques and specialty modalities
- Perform evaluations on instructions for constructive feedback
- Perform evaluations on peers for constructive feedback
- Develop strong clinical assessment and evaluation skills
- Complete core competencies to perform massage safely, ethically, and effectively

- Demonstrate professional responsibility and adherence to ethical principles.
- Speak publicly, listen actively, and respond effectively.
- Identify common evidence-based indications and contradictions for massage and discuss benefits of massage with clients.
- Demonstrate active listening and critical thinking skills in interviewing and determining an appropriate treatment plan for a client.
- Provide a professional and effective relaxation massage using classic (Swedish) techniques, demonstrate the appropriate application of deep tissue massage.
