NUR 131 - Introduction to Pharmacology

Description: This course is a study of drug calculations and basic concepts of pharmacology.

Course Topics:
Dimensional analysis approach to solving dosage calculations.

Required Materials:
  • Calculator (No graphing calculators) 
  • ATI materials for first semester students

Grading System:
An overall grade of B or higher is required for transferability.

A = 90 - 100
B =  80 - 89
C =  70 - 79
D =  60 - 69
F =    0 - 59


Student Learning Outcomes:
1.    Apply principles of dimensional analysis to correctly calculate drug dosages.
2.    Describe the new abbreviations and notation rules involved in nursing.
3.    Accurately solve common equivalency and metric conversions.
4.    Accurately calculate dosage for on-time doses for oral medications and parenteral medications by ready drug labels.
5.    Accurately mark a syringe or identify quantity of solution in a syringe.
