DHM 171 - Introduction to Heavy Equipment Welding

Description: This course introduces the proper welding techniques utilized to alter a sub-frame, alter a unit, or add equipment to improve payload space, safety, or location.
Prerequisite(s): Take DHM 159 or CWE 113 and DHM 173 .
Course Topics:
- Alteration of sub-frames
- Add equipment to improve payload space, safety, or location
- Various welding processes

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.
A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F = 0 - 59
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the OSHA standards for safety and PPE requirements for metal fabrication tool and equipment use.
- Apply measurements and proper layout techniques to metal fabrication.
- Demonstrate the proper set up and use of welding equipment in the SMAW welding process.
- Demonstrate the proper set up and use of welding equipment in the MIG welding process.
- Demonstrate the proper set up and use of an Oxy-Acetylene Torch to cut carbon steel.
