DMS 170 - Clinical Applications III Clinical Hours: 24 Credits: 8
Description: This course covers advanced sonography modalities in the clinical environment.
Prerequisite(s): DMS 112 , DMS 114 , DMS 125 , and DMS 160 . Course Topics:
- Medical ethics, law, infection control, communication and patient care as it relates to sonography Ergonomic techniques and awareness of work-related MSK injuries
- Sonographic hands on imaging techniques including image optimization
- Medical and sonographic technology
- Biological effects of sonography and ALARA
- Scope of practice for sonographers
- Achievement of clinical competency through the performance of sonographic exams
Textbooks: Textbook information can be found on the Book Inn website Required Materials:
- Windows based computer with Internet access.
Grading System: An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability and to continue in the Radiologic Technology Program.
A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F = 0 - 59 Student Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate application of ergonomic techniques.
- Demonstrate application of infection control, standard precautions, isolation procedure, preventative methods and transducer sanitation and disinfection.
- Demonstrate application of patient care both inside and outside the sonography department.
- Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate and collaborate in the healthcare environment.
- Demonstrate medical ethics while in the clinic setting.
- Demonstrate the application of image production and optimization.
- Demonstrate practice of the ALARA principle while in the clinic setting.
- Demonstrate sonographic technique, measurements, sonographic appearances, and Doppler patterns, where applicable, in both normal and abnormal structures.
- Demonstrate scanning protocol and modification(s) based on the sonographic findings and the differential diagnoses.
- Demonstrate clinical competency through the performance of sonographic examinations.
- Define resources for professional development including professional organizations, clinical conferences, and professional journals.
