MTT 253 - CNC Programming and Operations


Class: 1 Lab: 6 Credits: 3
This course is a study of the planning, programming, selecting tooling, determining speeds and feeds, setting up, operating, and testing of CNC programs on CNC machines. 

Prerequisite(s): Take MTT 251  with a minimum grade of “C”. 
Corequisite(s): Take MTT 252

  • Scientific Calculator (TI-30XA)
  • USB Drive
  • Clear Safety Glasses
  • 3-piece Machinist Starter Kit:
    • 6” Rule
    • 1” Micrometer
    • 6” Dial Caliper

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

A 90 - 100
B 80 - 89
C 70 - 79
D 60 - 69
F 0 - 59

  2. Demonstrate proper start-up procedures.
  3. Demonstrate WPC set-up and work-shift.
  4. Demonstrate tool offsets and tool lengths.
  5. Demonstrate basic set-up and programming formats.
