BUS 180 - Social Media in Business


Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3

Description: This course is a study of social media use in business. Students explore different social media outlets and interact with a variety of social media platforms that support business strategies.

Prerequisite(s): Take ENG 100  and RDG 100  with a minimum grade of C.
Course Topics:
  • History of social media
  • Social media platforms
  • Technology associated with social media
  • Customer interactions with social media
  • Benefits and risks using social media in business

Textbooks:
Textbook information can be found on the Chaser’s Bark Shop website
Required Materials:
  • Computer with Internet access
  • Word processing software (must be able to save in Word format)
  • Anti-virus software

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F =   0 - 59


Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify and explain the core functions and purpose of major social media platforms.
  2. Describe foundational social media marketing concepts, including target audiences, content strategies, and engagement metrics.
  3. Analyze examples of social media content to determine effectiveness based on audience, message, and platform.
  4. Create a basic social media content plan that aligns with a simple marketing objective.
