EET 111 - DC Circuits

Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 4

Description: This course is a study of resistance, voltage, current, power and energy in series, parallel, and series-parallel circuits using Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s laws, and circuit theorems. Circuits are analyzed using mathematics and verified using electrical instruments.

Prerequisite(s): Take ENG 100  and MAT 102  and RDG 100 .
Corequisite(s): Take MAT 110  .
Course Topics:
  • Understanding and calculating values using Ohm’s and Watt’s Laws
  • Calculating and testing resistive elements with a focus on tolerance
  • Evaluating series circuits using simulations and testing of prototypes
  • Evaluating parallel circuits using simulations and testing of prototypes
  • Evaluating series-parallel combination circuits
  • Use of variable and fixed resistors in more complex circuitry
  • DC circuits analysis using network theorems
  • Control of electromagnetic circuits using software code

Textbooks:
Textbook information can be found on the Chaser’s Bark Shop website
Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

A =  90 - 100
B =   80 - 89
C =   70 - 79
D =   60 - 69
F =     0 - 59

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify and use the appropriate bench test equipment in a laboratory setting.
  2. Construct analog and digital circuits using basic schematic diagrams.
  3. Collect experimental data and organize in a concise tabular form.
  4. Use electronic and industrial schematics in finding solutions to given case studies, scenarios or word problems.
  5. Report lab data clearly and accurately.
  6. Design, troubleshoot and test electronic and industrial circuits.
