SUR 103 - Surgical Procedures I

Description: This course is a study of a system-to-system approach to surgical procedures and relates regional anatomy, pathology, specialty equipment, and team responsibility. Patient safety, medical/legal aspects, and drugs used in surgery are emphasized.

Prerequisite(s): Take SUR 101, SUR 102, SUR 108 and SUR 109.

Protective eye wear

1 - Box of Latex Sterile Surgical Gloves

Grading System:
Students must maintain a final overall average of 80. An average of less than 80 will prevent students from continuing in the program. Additionally, the student must satisfactorily complete all required competencies in the lab.

A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F = 0 - 59

Analyze the various methods and agents used in anesthesia.
Assess the drugs, weights, and measures used in surgery.
Assess the principles of general surgery.
Evaluate intraoperative and postoperative case management.
Assess the principles of Genitourinary Surgery.
Assess the principles of Neurosurgery.
Analyze general patient care and safety in the surgical suite to include vital signs.
