COS 106 - Facials and Makeup

Description: This is an introductory course to the procedures for various skin treatments, including anatomy, chemisty, and safety.

Course Topics:
This is an introductory course in which the procedures for various skin treatments are learned. Areas of study include anatomy, chemistry, and safety.

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F = 0 - 59

Student Learning Outcomes:

Distinguish between the different skin types, provide skin analysis and identify examples of contraindications that prohibit facial treatments before performing facial treatments.
Explain the different categories of skin care products used in facial treatments and understand and define facial massage and why massage is used in facials.
Describe the benefits of the two types of electrical machines used in facial treatments, including the difference between galvanic and high frequency treatments and demonstrate how light therapy and aromatherapy is used in facial treatments.
Describe the various types of cosmetics and their uses for facial makeup and explain how to use color theory when choosing cosmetics for makeup application.
Identify different facial types and summarize basic makeup techniques to alter them.
Demonstrate techniques for creating special-occasion makeup, including the use and application of artificial eyelashes.
