ARV 121 - Design


Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 3

Description: This course covers basic theories, vocabulary, principles, techniques, media and problem-solving in basic design.

Prerequisite(s): Take ENG 100 MAT 100 , and RDG 100  with a minimum grade of C.

  • Graphic Design Industry occupations, responsibilities, and processes 
  • Measuring in inches and points 
  • Typography 
  • Design principles 
  • Color theory 
  • Design process 
  • Basic layout skills 
  • Basic Illustration skills 
  • Basic image editing skills

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability and to continue in the Radiologic Technology Program.

A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F =   0 - 59


Student Learning Outcomes:
1.    Explain the roles, processes, occupations, responsibilities, and technologies within the printing and digital media industry. 
2.    Produce a digital composition to include measurements and typography.
3.    Describe the fundamental design principles, color spaces, and copy preparation methods relating to both print and digital composition. 
4.    Demonstrate proper preparation and output of digital files necessary for graphic reproduction.
5.    Produce graphic works by using industry standard page layout, illustration, and image editing software.
