CPT 127 - Python Programming I


Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3

Description: This course is a study of Python programming and covers the language syntax and algorithm design. Students also learn how Python can be used for many purposes in information systems.   

Prerequisite(s): Take CPT 168  with a minimum grade of C.
Course Topics:
  • Basic syntax, data types, and control structures in Python 
  • Basic programs in Python 
  • Built in Python functions 
  • Data stores 
  • Test and debug code

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F =   0 - 59


Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Incorporate appropriate syntax, data types, and control structures such as decisions  and loops into basic Python programs. 
  2. Write programs to input data, solve computational problems and output answers.
  3. Use built-in functions and standard libraries.
  4. Create and manipulate data structures such as lists, tuples, sets and dictionaries.
  5. Develop, debug and test code using tools like print statements, error messages, and  IDEs.
