CPT 273 - Data Visualization


Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3

Description: This course explores key concepts in data visualization and reporting. Topics include methods used in graphical representation of data, exploration and reporting of data, and basic predictive modeling methods.

Prerequisite(s): Take MGT 206  with a minimum grade of C. 
Course Topics:
  • Types of data
  • Purposeful use of color
  • Data visualization and design 
  • Exploring data visually
  • Data dashboards 
  • Storytelling and presentation design

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F =   0 - 59


Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate which graphical formats are useful for distinct types of data and questions. 
  2. Demonstrate analytical usage of Tableau, Excel and Power BI. 
  3. Use exploratory data and visual tools for solving business problems.
