EET 104 - Electronic Engineering Technology Foundations


Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3

Description: This survey style course is designed to introduce students to important topics and skills they will use in all their core electronics classes, and throughout their career. Topics such as engineering notation, scientific calculator usage, and electrical simulation software are introduced. Numerous hands-on skills such as multimeter usage, basic soldering and basic hand tools are also covered. In addition, students spend time developing resumes and developing other career search skills including participating in a mock interview.

Prerequisite(s): Take ENG 100  and RDG 100  and MAT 101  or MAT 152  with a minimum grade of C. Take MAT 102  either prior to or at the same time as this course. 
Course Topics:
  • Engineering notation and representation of values within engineering disciplines
  • Calculator usage to solve algebraic equations and conversions
  • Knowledge of electronics industry vocabulary
  • Use of hand tools in engineering technology
  • Soldering and cable fabrication
  • An introduction to electronics test equipment
  • Electrical Engineering specific software tools
  • The value of a resume and good career search skills 
  • Technical report writing for engineering disciplines

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

B =   80 - 89
C =   70 - 79

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Express electrical quantities in industry standard format.
  2. Demonstrate the use of basic electrical hand tools.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to fabricate/repair using a soldering iron.
  4. Demonstrate the proper use of a digital multimeter.
  5. Generate schematic drawings using electronics simulation software.
  6. Develop a working resume suitable for a technical job search.
  7. Explain the importance of ethical behavior in engineering disciplines.
  8. Plan, produce and deliver an oral presentation on a technical topic.
