SPA 107 - Hispanic Culture and Communication

Description: This course is a study of Hispanic culture and intercultural communication.

Prerequisite(s): Take ENG 100  and RDG 100  with a minimum grade of C.

  • Healthcare and wellness 
  • Literature/Art/Music 
  • Religion 
  • Holidays, festivals, and fairs
  • Gastronomy and cuisine

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify essential aspects of the cultures of the Hispanic world.
  2. Describe specific Hispanic cultural phenomena.
  3. Compare the complexity, diversity, and similarities among two or more cultures.
  4. Describe the impact of power differentials - especially economic and racial - as they relate to the beliefs, histories, and lived experiences of Hispanic societies.
  5. Articulate cultural sensitivity, appreciation, and increased understanding of the diversity offered by the Spanish-speaking world.
