NUR 240 - Critical Care Nursing

Description: This course facilitates the development of competence necessary to meet the needs of patients with life threatening problems.

Prerequisite(s): Take NUR 104 , NUR 138 , NUR 106 , NUR 141 , NUR 165 , NUR 148 , NUR 135 , NUR 212  and NUR 214  with a minimum grade of B.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Evaluate and formulate comprehensive nursing care plans by analyzing date, laboratory results, nursing diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes for clients with fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base imbalances requiring intravenous therapy and nutrition.
  2. Design and collaborate on physiological and psychological care strategies for clients who have experienced burn injuries or trauma, integrating evidence-based practices.
  3. Formulate and implement interdisciplinary care plans addressing the physiological and psychological needs of clients experiencing respiratory failure, related diseases, and ventilator dependence.
  4. Develop and coordinate comprehensive nursing care interventions for clients experiencing shock, sepsis, or multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, based on clinical assessment and collaborative practice.
  5. Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for clients with cardiovascular compromise, including dyshythmias and/or acute cardiac injury, utilizing critical thinking and evidence-based practice.
