MED 113 - Basic Medical Laboratory Techniques


Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 3 Clinical Hours: 0 Credits: 3

Description: This course provides a study of specimen collection and techniques for related laboratory procedures routinely performed in medical offices and clinics; including hematology and procedures related to body fluids.

Corequisite(s): Take MED 102 , MED 105  and MED 118

Grading System:
An overall grade of B or higher is required for transferability.

A =  90 - 100
B =   80 - 89
C =   70 - 79
D =   60 - 69
F =     0 - 59


Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify laboratory organization and safety rules that must be followed to guard against chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
  2. Properly use a compound microscope.
  3. Describe quality assurance and quality control programs utilized by the laboratory.
  4. Identify and demonstrate proficiency in the three diagnostic methodologies of the urinalysis.
  5. Demonstrate proficiency in hematology test performed in the medical office.
