MLT 131 - Clinical Chemistry Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 3 Clinical Hours: 0 Credits: 3
Description: This course provides a study of the chemical elements in human blood and body fluids and their relationship to organ system function. Testing methods, interferences, quality control and clinical correlations will be emphasized.
Prerequisite(s): Take MLT 110 , MLT 120 , MLT 130 and MLT 205 . Course Topics:
- Heme and products of heme delegation
- Measurement of electrolytes and aeterial blood gases
- Measurement of minerals
- Study of Hormones
- Significance of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Toxicology
Textbooks: Textbook information can be found on the Book Inn website Required Materials:
- Proper lab attire (refer to addendum)
- Liquid impervious lab coat, gloves, and face shield (available in SCC Book Inn)
Grading System: An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.
A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69

- Explain how Tumor Markers are used in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
