BUS 240 - Business Statistics


Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3

Description: This course is a study of statistical methods related to business, including descriptive statistics, probability, binomial and normal distributions, and hypothesis testing.

Prerequisite(s): Take MAT 102  or MAT 103  or MAT 153  with a minimum grade of C.
Course Topics:
  • Data presentation 
  • Measures of central locations and dispersion
  • Probability and probability distributions
  • Estimation and hypothesis testing, and regression models
  • Use of Excel and R is emphasized throughout the course

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F =   0 - 59


Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Interpret and present the meaning of quantitative data and the results of data analysis.
  2. Understand the basic concepts of quantitative reasoning, and how inferences are drawn from quantitative analysis.
  3. Determine and use appropriate quantitative methods to solve problems, interpret the results of data analyses, and assess results for reasonableness.
