DHM 205 - Diesel Engines II


Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 3

Description: This course covers the practical application of diesel engine repair, including engine disassembly, unit repair, reassembly, and testing.

Prerequisite(s): Take DHM 159  or CWE 113  and DHM 173 .  
Course Topics:
  • Cooling System Operation and Diagnosis
  • Lubrication System and Diagnosis
  • Gaskets and Sealants
  • Camshafts, Valve train, and Engine Timing Components
  • Engine Cleaning and Component Inspection

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

A =  90 - 100
B =   80 - 89
C =   70 - 79
D =   60 - 69
F =     0 - 59


Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify the inspections used to determine the serviceability of common wear items related to diesel engine repair.
  2. Perform diesel engine disassembly and reassembly procedures.
  3. Perform diagnostic and repair procedures on the turbocharger system.
  4. Perform diagnostic test and repairs related to engine performance concerns.
