DHM 269 - Diagnostic Testing

Description: This course will study the practical use of specific diagnostic equipment for analyzing and repairing caterpillar machine and engine systems.
Prerequisite(s): Take DHM 159 or CWE 113 and DHM 173 .
Course Topics:
- Scan tool usage
- Schematics and diagrams
- Symptom, to system, to component, to cause diagnostic process
- Symptom driven diagnosis
- DTC driven diagnosis

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.
A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F = 0 - 59
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Compare the major OEM’s diagnostic software and interfaces.
- Interpret readings from electronic diagnostic testing equipment.
- Analyze the comparison of live data of diesel engine sensors using a scan tool for diagnostic testing.
- Perform the diagnostic process to identify the root cause of component failure.
