DHM 157 - Introduction to Transmissions and Torque Converters

Description: This course is a study of various transmissions, torque converters, and differentials used in semi-truck equipment. This includes automatic transmissions, manual transmissions, multiple gear rear ends, and synchromesh gear boxes.
Prerequisite(s): Take DHM 159 or CWE 113 and DHM 173 .

An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69

Student Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the relationship between speed and torque in gear ratios.
- Identify the flow of torque through manual and automatic transmissions.
- Identify the operation of clutches and torque converters to transmit engine torque.
- Perform gear lash measurement and adjustment procedures.
- Perform maintenance and repair procedures for driveline components.
