PNR 110 - Fundamentals of Nursing Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 5 Clinical Hours: 4 Credits: 5
Description: This course provides an introduction to basic principles and beginning skills necessary to the nursing process. Concepts are integrated relating to physiological and psychosocial needs of the individual. Legal and ethical roles of the practical nurses are emphasized.
Prerequisite(s): Take COL 101 , ENG 101 , PSY 201 , BIO 112 and MAT 110 or MAT 120 with a minimum grade of C. Course Topics: Concepts in Nursing:

Grading System: An overall grade of B or higher is required for transferability.
A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F = 0 - 59 Student Learning Outcomes:
- Participate in the Nursing Process within the scope of practice of the Practical Nurse. (PLO 2)
- Verbalize the impact that cultural beliefs and values have in the performance of nursing skills. (PLO 2)
- Perform data collection and evidenced based nursing interventions for holistic care of individuals. (PLO 2/6)
- Utilize accepted principles and procedures for providing safe and effective nursing care in the performance of psycho motor skills. (PLO 1)
- Apply principles and techniques of therapeutic communication, at a beginning level, with patients, family members, staff, peers and faculty. (PLO 3)
- Participate in collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, as assigned by the registered nurse, to support positive individual and organizational outcomes in a safe and cost-effective manner. (PLO 4)
- Demonstrate appropriate actions regarding nursing practice consistent with professional values and ethical, legal, and regulatory guidelines. (PLO 5)
- Recall principles of dimensional analysis to correctly calculate drug dosages.
