DHM 274 - Alternative Fuels and Emerging Technologies Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Description: This course is the study of vehicles powered with diesel engines in combination with other non-diesel power systems. Fuel cell, compressed gasses, and Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition technology will be covered in this course. Additionally, topics such as autonomous vehicles and remotely operated equipment will be discussed.
Prerequisite(s): Take DHM 159 and DHM 173 Course Topics:
- Compressed natural gas fuel systems
- Propane fuel systems
- Fuel cell technology
- Driver assist systems
- Autonomous vehicles

- Explain how to relieve high pressure fuel systems for service and repair
- Differentiate between conventional fuel systems and alternative fuel systems
- Explain how a fuel cell operates
- Show how to use a wiring schematic to diagnose driver assist systems such as lane keeping assist and camera technology
- Explain module communications networks
- Demonstrate the ability to use scan tool
- Show the ability to interpret guided diagnostics and pinpoint test procedures
- Explain Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition
