DHM 232 - Heating, Cooling, & Air Conditioning Systems


Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 3

Description: This course is an introduction to engine heating and cooling systems used in modern trucks.  Various truck and heavy equipment air conditioning systems are explored.

Prerequisite(s): Take DHM 159  or CWE 113  and DHM 173  
Course Topics:
  • Principles of refrigeration cycle
  • Principles of heating systems
  • Diagnosis and repair of HVAC systems

Grading System:
An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.

A =  90 - 100
B =   80 - 89
C =   70 - 79
D =   60 - 69
F =     0 - 59


Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Point out the major systems, and list the components, associated with those systems.
  2. Subdivide the four (4) principles of Climate Control.
  3. Properly connect test equipment and evaluate the readings.
  4. Demonstrate the proper diagnosis of air distribution systems.
  5. Demonstrate the proper diagnosis of air refrigeration’s systems.
  6. Demonstrate proper equipment usage to discharge, recycle, and recharge of refrigerant. 
  7. Solve (diagnose) electronically controlled refrigeration systems concerns.
