PHY 118 - Medical Imaging Science


Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 Credits: 3

Description: This course is the study of fundamental physics associated with the field of medical imaging sciences.  The areas of study include concepts of radiation production as it relates to x-rays and nuclear medicine studies and acoustical properties related to sonographic exams. 

Prerequisite(s): MAT 110  with a minimum grade of C.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Acknowledge and discuss the diverse cultural contributions to the field of science.
  2. Explain the role of mathematics and various scientific methods in advancing scientific knowledge.
  3. Examine the importance of honest inquiry and the distinction between natural and supernatural phenomena. 
  4. Apply the principles of waves and sound, including their reflection, refraction, and the Doppler effect.
  5. Define the nature of electromagnetic waves, reflection, refraction, and the principles of color and light speed in different mediums.
