MEC 201 - AC/DC Drives Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Description: This course covers the principles of operation and application of AC drives and DC drives, and additional motor control devices and techniques.
Prerequisite(s): MEC 102 , MEC 110 , and MEC 130 . Course Topics:
- AC & DC drive characteristics
- Drive schematics
- Drive and circuit failures

Grading System: An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.
A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F = 0 - 59 Student Learning Outcomes:
- Identify and demonstrate proper electrical and mechanical safety precautions and procedures while working with AC/DC drives.
- Measure motor current and voltage in a lab environment using DMM and ammeter.
- Describe the basic operation of DC drives from controlling/powering a DC drive and demonstrate DC drive operation in the lab.
- Describe the basic operation of AC drives from controlling/powering an AC drive and demonstrate AC drive operation in the lab.
- Explain proper steps and demonstrate proper troubleshooting techniques and methods for AC/DC drives.
