MEC 210 - Programmable Logic Controllers 1 Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Description: This course covers the application of programmable logic controller theories and operation procedures. Topics such as interfacing data manipulation and report generation are covered. Programmable controller projects are constructed, operated, and tested.
Prerequisite(s): MEC 102 , MEC 110 , and MEC 130 . Course Topics:
- Safety
- History of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)
- Overview of a PLC System
- Introduction to Programming Languages/Software Manipulating Field Devices with a PLC

Grading System: An overall grade of C or higher is required for transferability.
A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F = 0 - 59 Student Learning Outcomes:
- Implement AND, OR, or NOT logic to solve a problem.
- Translate gate logic into ladder logic.
- Describe digital and analog inputs and outputs.
- Identify the connections to a PLC using electrical prints, electrical diagrams, or field wiring diagrams.
- Design and implement ladder logic program utilizing the applicable software.
