NUR 135 - Foundations of Nursing Practice Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 6 Credits: 4
Description: This course introduces nursing care of the individual nursing care of the individual with selected, commonly occurring health problems having predictable outcomes.
Prerequisite(s): BIO 210 , BIO 211 , BIO 225 , BIO 240 , COL 101 , ENG 101 , ENG 102 , MAT 110 or MAT 120 , NUR 120 , NUR 138 , NUR 148 , PSY 201 with a minimum grade of C or better. Corequisite(s): NUR 165 Course Topics:
- Acid-Base disturbances
- Endocrine disorders
- Respiratory disorders
- Cardiac disorders
- Genitourinary disorders
- Renal disorders

Grading System: An overall grade of B or higher is required for transferability.

- Examine and discuss the impact of various local, state, and national level health care initiatives. (PLO 5)
- Compare and contrast the etiology, clinical manifestations, medication management, collaborative care, and nursing management for selected disease processes. (PLO 2)
- Compare and contrast the normal physiology of body systems to pathologic variations. (PLO 2)
- Identify common nursing interventions, rationales, and expected outcomes related to client teaching for individual management of selected common disease processes. (PLO 2)
- Demonstrate critical thinking by combining knowledge of selected disease processes and assessment data to formulate desired outcomes. (PLO 3)
- Collaborate and communicate with other health care providers to resolve, improve, or provide optimal care for client disease processes. (PLO 4)
